What is diabetes?
Diabetes is a condition relating to the body’s production and use of insulin and causes blood sugar levels to become too high. There are 2 types of diabetes:
Type 1: The immune system attacks and destroys the cells which produce insulin.
Type 2: The body does not produce enough insulin or cells in the body don’t react to it properly.
People who are diagnosed with diabetes need to eat healthily, exercise regularly and have regular checks including blood tests, all of which can be managed in care homes with a care plan.
